JIM ODDWINDS
We have to say that JIM ODDWINDS was work school for an unknown artist who liked to get anywhere. I'm talking about the periode 1963 to 1970.
So, if we are looking back today, we will find several established singers who started his/hers career as a lead singer in Jim Oddwinds.
The band was put together in 1963, at that time was they only 4 members.
Harald Oseth on accordion, Jim Solberg on drums, Oddvin Sørlie guitar and song, and Tore Tveter on bassguitar. Tore Tveter was the only one who owned an electric (bass) guitar. After a while did we purchased both electric guitar and Hammond organ and amplifiers.
Tore did know how to construct, and buildt therefore his "Bass reflex" loudspeaker cabinet himself. At that time he was a student, electronics, and constructed some heavy loudspeakers made from particle board.
We also needed a PA, and found a portion second-hand thing. ECHOLETTE mixer and 20W mono poweramp from Germany. Fantastic 5 channels with Master, Bass and Treble including an extra ECHOLETTE Echo machine. The sound was fantastic ment we all.
It could be fine to have a saxophone in the band, so Harald Hagen came in as a new member. Needed a pair bigger PA loudspeakers, The Danish MAX loudspeakers, was then taken on never-never payment.
The band was very populare and they had a lots of gigs.
And the day came when we after work, turned up into Oslo biggest recordings studio, Roger Arnhof Studios, for to make our first single.Straight in into the box, Mono, just vocal overdub. Well, as you can se below this text, this was a success.
Number one, 3 weeks on row, at the Norwegian topp 10 list.
Tore Tveter played in the band a few more years. He was the first, who walked out from the band, for afterwards start his own band TORE HENNINGS.
It was in the early 80s. The bandleader of JIM ODDWINDS again asked me for help.
They were desperately looking for a bass player, and hadn't yet found anyone else....
I had just taken a break from my new group TEDDYS, who needed a new keyboardist, and was in the middle of nowhere, so I had the opportunity to jump in.
I wanted to hear the band again, after so many years, for obvious reasons, before I made the decision.
It was a big disappointment.
I said that I would only accept the job under the following requirements:
Some members had to leave, because the band needed a good and stable rhythm group.
So I asked two of my colleagues from TEDDYS to help us.
Color image by JIM ODDWINDS shows 3 ex TEDDYS in the back row.
From left above, Guttorm Bjerkely Drums, Tore Tveter Bass, Oddbjørn Bjerkely Rhythm and Lead guitar.
In black, front left, the legendary guitarist John Fredriksen, and our singing ray of sunshine Solfrid Stene.
Then on the right (in black) Harald Oseth Keyboard, the only remaining one from the original group.
I played with that group for almost 2 years, then the Bjerkely brothers (identical twins) kindly asked me to restart TEDDYS. These were the great times for TEDDYS.....
